About Me
I have always been drawn to clothing. I can still remember sitting in my grandmother’s living room with colored paper and craft scissors, designing play dresses with tape and glue. My early love for dress up has continued to evolve into a deeper understanding of the stories clothing can tell, and the journeys on which garments can take us. I particularly love the challenge of costumes and the way creative design helps tell a visual story. Designing is not just going to a store and picking out fabric; designers have the unique opportunity to enter the mind of the character they are dressing. For me, the opportunity to understand and create the clothes the character would choose for themselves has become part of the fabric of who I am. I love the challenge of figuring out why characters make the choices they do, down to the socks they’re wearing under their shoes. I have gained perspective and learned about many ways of viewing the world as I put myself in the shoes of so many different kinds of people. I am currently a third year MFA Candidate at the University of Missouri-Kansas City pursuing my MFA in Costume Design and Technology. I received my BFA in Theatre Design and Technology with an Emphasis in Costume Design from The University of Evansville.
